Students found the lessons to be boring and were not interested in attending school. Even after the volunteers helped getting out-of-school children enrolled into the school, the desired enthusiasm amongst students was missing. Attendance records revealed that the rate of absenteeism was quite high.
Teachers and ILMBASSADORS note that since the very first DOSTI lesson children were very excited. By the second week of DOSTI session, a positive change in the attitude of students was observed. Due to DOSTI’s physical activities, ILMBASSADORs observed a marked increase in attendance and improvement in the retention rate.
Being a school for the hearing impaired, the teachers used sign language to explain the story; a few students performed role play to act out the story to other students. Hence, along with the interesting stories and the enjoyable physical games, DOSTI provided a new platform for students to express themselves and channel their talent.
